These are my Favs

This is my favorite pic of our family.....
Thought you might like to know.....

Merry Christmas to all.......and to all a good........

Wow,
What a year. I know that everyone has their own set of challenges so I know that we are no different. I have always been taught if it doesn't kill you it will make you stronger.

I hope that everyone has had a great Christmas and holiday season. We were very lucky to have my mom stay with us this past week for Christmas. She has only stayed with us on Christmas morning one other time about 15 years ago near as I can remember.

The kids loved having her around and it was fun to watch them interact with her. They enjoyed every minute with her.

I was also able to see my Grandma Liston. She is 87 and is starting to suffer from Alzheimers. Sometimes you don't notice and other times it is incredibly noticeable. She is a very strong woman and I am lucky to have her in my life.

I would also like to thank my family for sticking together this year through thick and thin and for always being there for each other. We have really grown together as a family this year and I have a greater appreciation for each of my children and my sweet wife and what each of them bring to our family.

I am very grateful for the great friends that Jen and I have. You will never know how much each one of you mean to us. You are the ones that make us stronger and give us the opportunity to continue moving in the right direction. For that I am extremely blessed.

Where would I be without my sweet wife and all that she has endured this year. I am truly blessed to have her in my life.

Everything I have I owe to my father in heaven and I pray that I can continue to live up to the expectations and promises that have been made.

I love you all,

D, Triman, Eaglebeak,
you know the drill.................be good.

I am now officially back to work. My Comfort

The day has finally come...........

It took 4 weeks to make a decision and we had some very kind friends and family involved in helping us but in the end I decided to get back into retail where I have had over 15 years of experience.

I was offered the position as VP of Sales and Marketing at My Comfort for a couple of locations. The Murray and Logan locations is where I will call home. As you know I am a big believer that things happen for a reason and this is no different. The way that I came upon this opportunity and what took place to even get me to interview for it was very inspirational. I could have taken a few other jobs that may have been a 9-5 M-F but it did not offer the kind of potential that this position could ultimately bring.

I found this position from Craig's List and replied to a posting for an available sales person. I had an opportunity to meet the 2 owners and after several meetings and phone calls we came to an agreement on my responsibilities for the organization and what my specific role will be in helping this company reach its potential.

Since this is a franchise opportunity I am currently only affiliated with the 2 locations I mentioned previous. (Murray and Logan) If you are in the market for a new bed (Intelli-Gel) then please see me at either the Murray or Logan locations. There are several other My Comfort stores along the Western US and Utah but for know I am only working with these two.

After I researched the company thoroughly and spoke to the two owners (Amy and Emily Pearce, Yep they're sisters) I reached the conclusion that these beds are by far the best on the market and offer things that no other beds can claim. It was also very evident that both Amy and Emily are passionate about what they are trying to accomplish and have offered me a great opportunity to be a part of it.

I start my new position on Monday the 3rd of November and I am excited to help move the company in the direction that they desire, to be the best at what they do.

I would like to personally thank all of you for your kind words and phone calls and for your willingness to help with anything. Also to the angels that touched our lives in more ways than one.

Be good always.........You never know who may be watching you.........

Angels amoung us.......Thank you.....

Have you ever had the distinct impression that you were being watched over and protected? Have you ever prayed and had your prayers answered when you said amen? Well we have as a family.
Although I will never know in this life who the angels are that were keenly aware of our needs, I do know that we are truly blessed and say thank you with every part of my soul. Words cannot describe the feelings of gratitude that we have as a family.
All things happen for a reason. It is hard to say at this time exactly why we are tested in the ways we are. What I can do is promise to pay it forward one day when we are able.

To our guardian angels.........You answered our prayers in more ways than one. Because of that I am eternally grateful.......Duane

Jen's new little boutique business. Sweet Adeline

My sweet wife has always wanted to start a little business of her own to sell various items. With a few suggestions from friends and relatives she has decided to start selling beanies and hand made personalized tutu's. I'm sure that there may be more to follow but this is a start. Thanks for everyone's love and support and for being there for us.........Love, The Ralphs

Final game of the season for Syracuse Black. Finished season 6-3

What a great year the boys had. They played a tough Kaysville Brown team that were able to capitalize on our mistakes very quickly and we lost 33-6.

Jaden was able to score his final touchdown of the year on a fake punt around the right side. It has been so fun watching him and the rest of the boys play this year.

I went back and looked at all of my previous posts and if my calculations are correct Jaden had 17 touchdowns for the year. He was able to learn much more about football this year as he is only a second year player.

We are trying to decide if we will be able to go to the tournament in Las Vegas over Thanksgiving this year. With my job loss we are not sure where our next paycheck will come from so it makes it difficult to commit to going.

Thanks to all of the players and coaches for a great year. It has been a ton of fun and I know all of the boys had a great time as well.

Syracuse Black...Now 6-2.....Great playoff win against a tough Bear River White team.

What a great win today against a tough Bear River White team. This was our first game in the playoffs this year and we came away with a 6-0 win played in a cold, very, very wet game. Jaden scored the only touchdown on a deep fly pass that Kolten threw perfectly to him. It was just enough as we were able to hold them scoreless the rest of the game. We were able to protect the ball and move the ball just enough to keep them in their own end of the field most of the game.

We are now one of only 8 teams left in the playoffs and face a tough Kaysville Brown team next Saturday. If we can execute our game plan and not turn the ball over we will have a good chance to come away with a win next week.

Look for more next week............

Terrible game for Syracuse Black 5-2 (No crying in football)

Wow,
What do you say when the first play of the game is an onside kick and the other team recovers it? It was by far the worst game of the year for our team. We lost 33-0 against a good Kaysville Gold team. They are a good team but not 33-0 good team. I certainly don't want to take anything away from Kaysville and their team but we had 6 turnovers in this game. Two fumbles, two interceptions and two lost onside kicks. We never got into a rhythm in this game.

I give Kaysville credit for taking the ball out of Jaden's hands. They kicked off six times with 5 onside kicks and 1 down the opposite side of the field. Jaden never touched the ball on a kickoff. We did have a few moments where we executed on a couple of plays and it looked like it might turnaround but a penalty or a turnover quickly stopped the drives. Both the coaches and players felt like we had just been kicked in the gut as this was the worst loss in the last 2 years that we have had.

In any event we are still the number one seed in our bracket going into the playoffs and everyone is picking Bear River White to beat us. Hopefully that will give us some added motivation going into the playoffs. We definitely need all of the boys to play well and need a good defensive effort on the field. I was so distraught after our loss on Sat that it took me until today (Tuesday) to post anything about the game.

We have a very good team that needs to find a way to get up for the big games. As we have said all along if we can execute our game plan and not have any turnovers we can win every game. That obviously did not happen last Saturday. We need to have a good week of practice and forget about our game on Saturday to set the stage for a first round win in the playoffs this week.
Lets dry our tears and move on to our most important game of the season. Remember there is no crying in football.

Bring it on boys.........Syracuse Black will be ready...........

More to follow............

Taggert 2-1 Having fun with the Golden Dragons

Although Dad wasn't there as he was coaching Jaden's football game we had Mom there to support and represent the family and cheering section for Taggert. Taggert is having a ton of fun and was able to score 2 goals on the way to their second win of the season for the Golden Dragons. Taggert and his friend Connor have loads of laughs and can't stop running the entire time they are in the game. If this is any indication of his older brother then Taggert could be on his way to a speedy gonzales future.
Keep on running and smiling Taggert, cause we love to watch you run and do your flips.........

Syracuse 5-1 Good tune up game headed into the playoffs

As you can see we have the best first down line marker in Lisa Brown. She was able to pull off a straight line with the chain on multiple occasions today making it easy for the refs to know where the first down markers were. Great job Lisa......
It was a good football day today for our last region game heading into the playoffs in 2 weeks. We were able to get out to an early lead and pull off a 20-6 victory over Sky View Blue this morning. All of the boys played a tough game today. Jaden had 2 touchdowns around the left side as he was able to sprint down the sideline and outrun everyone. Wes Tippets had his first touchdown as he added a tough run on the right side to get into the endzone.
This was a good tuneup to work on a few plays before we face Kaysville Gold next week in Kaysville for our last regular season game. Since we were able to beat them last year they will be hungry for a win and we will have to have a great game to match their intensity.
After the game we ended up with most of the team at Crown Burger in Layton for an after game celebration...We need to have a great week this week and a good showing next Saturday as we head into the playoffs...........Hit hard with no regrets........Until next week.

Taggerts first ever goal in a real professional soccer game!!!!!!! Golden Dragons 4-3 over the Purple penguins

Both Mom and Dad were grinning ear to ear as Taggert scored his first two goals of his illustrious professional soccer career. The first came on a diving header from the corner as he took the cross from a fellow teammate ...............Well..............It actually was a kick up the middle but the overall effect of the description sounded better from the latter. He was pretty excited and added a second goal with less than a minute left in the game to secure the win 4-3.

He seems to be having tons of fun with his little friends on the field and goes like the energizer bunny. The parents and coach are very supportive of the boys and it is a great learning environment for his first experience. I had forgotten until last week how much fun they are to watch at this age. Stay tuned for more.............

Syracuse Black 4-1 - Great win against a good Bear River Red team

Wow, what a game. This contest was a game of big plays for both sides. Our Syracuse Black team came out on top with a tough 19-13 win. With a few of our players hurt, absent or not feeling their best this was a tough test to see what our boys were made of. Since we only have 19 boys on our team it makes it that much more important that all of the boys give their best efforts when on the field and they all did just that. This was a great team win as all of the boys contributed to this win. Jaden had another great game as he scored 3 touchdowns. None of which could have happened if it weren't for the great blocking and hard nosed football that our team exhibited on Saturday.
Jaden's first touchdown came on a run around the left end for about 65 yards and was sprung on a great block on the left side. His second touchdown came on a kickoff return as he let the ball bounce, he watched the field part up the middle and picked up the ball on his own 30 yard line and then took off like a gun right up the middle as the team's blocking again made a hole for him to run through. His final touchdown was the longest of the year for him as they were pinned on their own 5 yard line and he took a run around the right side and was able to out run everyone for a much needed touchdown for Syracuse Black to take the lead back for good.
Because of the loss that Sky View Gold suffered we were able to lock up a number one seed going into the first round of the playoffs. In order for us to make it past the first couple of rounds in the playoffs we will need to execute better on offense and play better on the defensive line. We will also need to get healthy again as Tyler Brown is still out with an injury to a finger on his right hand but should be ready to go by the playoffs. Landon Strong suffered an injury to a finger on his hand as well in the game but should be ready to go by next Saturday. Karson Nielsen also suffered an injury to his right elbow during practice on Thursday requiring 7 stitches but played well on Saturday and caught a great pass for a much needed extra point. Overall the boys are playing very well together and are very close as a team. It will be important for them to maintain that camaraderie and play with pride as a team for them to go deep into the playoffs.

Next up is Sky View Gold at Bluffridge next Saturday. They will be coming to play to prove that they deserve to be reckoned with. We will need to have a good game to come out on top here. They have nothing to lose so they will come ready to play. Stay tuned.................

I want to personaly thank the parents of the boys on the team. I know what it is like to have good coaches and bad. Good supportive parents and bad. We do our best as coaches to teach these boys the game of football and to do our best to win but we need to also remember that it is just a game. Hopefully this has been a great exerience for the boys and their families. As a first year coach I have seen first hand how these boys have responded to tough situations and are better because of it. I have also seen all of the coaches take a personal interest in the boys and are generally concerned about their development into great young men not just in football but also in life. As a parent it would be so easy to be critical of the decisions that the coaches make during practice and during games. I can honestly say I have not heard one negative comment from any of the parents this year toward any coaches or players and for that I thank you. Sometimes during the games things can get heated as the game progresses for both good and bad. Thank you for letting us do our best and learn from our mistakes as well.

Go Syracuse Black!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jenniper (Yes that is a P. There is a reason)

On one of our excursions we have taken throughout the Caribbean, we ended up in a rainforest in Martinique with a cab driver that couldn't pronounce his F's. (Which looking back was probably a good thing) He asked us our names and we were on our way. Every time he saw a scenic spot, which was every 30 seconds in Martinique, he would say "Jenniper, look at us now, look at us now." It got to be so funny that we have never forgotten about it.

What do you say about a woman that you have spent almost half of your life with? There are many adjectives that come to mind. Amazing, incredible, loving, caring, kind. She is the epitome of the word companion, wife and mother. I googled the name Jennifer and the first site that popped up was Super Fantastic person. "OK a little exagerrated there." What can you do without the mother of your children, the first person you see when you wake up and the last when you go to sleep. My answer to that is not much. I cannot imagine life without her. Obviously when you are married to someone for 18 years you take the good with the bad. It is very evident that I took the good and she took the bad. I constantly find myself wishing I could do or say things over again or have a do over. I am committed to being the best husband and father I can be and realize that it is because of her that I am a better father and husband. "She completes me" I can only hope that the next 18 will be as good as the first, cause the first have been pretty dog gone good. I love you Jen.

Morgan Kaye

I need to apologize to Morgan for being the first child of our family and a girl no less. She came to us 12 days before our 1 year anniversary so we were rookies trying to raise our first child and made a ton of mistakes along the way. She has always been the mother hen of our family and makes sure that everything is in order weather mom and dad are there or not. She is a special girl that has the ability to make anyone smile with her warm personality and charm. She has overcome many obstacles in her life and has put herself in a position to help others along the way. She has chosen to seek a medical career and although she just started her senior year at CHS, she is already planning her freshman year at Utah State. She has many good friends that have been there for her and I'm glad to see that she has reciprocated the favor. Although she is a big girl now it is always nice when she finds the time to come and sit on daddy's lap and tell him she loves him. Thank you for being a good example to your siblings. We are very proud of you for the choices you have made.
I love you Morg.

Emmory Beth

What a sweet, special, very independant daughter. I can't tell you how many times I have gone into her room to find out who she is playing with just to find out that she is talking in first person as though she were the Barbie talking to Ken or any one of the many dolls that she has in her room. "Emmy, is everything ok?" "Yea, Dad just playing." (Big Smile) :) She is a daddy's girl all the way. If ever there is a problem Emmy and dad can usually resolve it within a couple of minutes just by sitting and smiling at each other and giving a high 5. Emmory is very special in our lives and she has been working very hard at improving her reading and spelling this year. she now enjoys reading and is doing very well in school and has been a great example for Taggert as he has started school this year. She plays very well with her siblings and loves to spend time with her friends anywhere that they can get together and if we did not call her home she would play 24-7. I love you Em.

The girls in my life

As I have looked back over the last couple of months as we have put this blog together I can see that I have put many notes and things in this blog about what has happened during this time or things from the recent past. Many of these things have involved my boys and I have spent a lot of time with them this summer. I also want you to know how special the girls are in my life as well. So you will see a few posts related to each of the special girls in my life.

Taggert's first "professional soccer game" #6 running wild.

"Dad does this mean I'm a professional soccer player now?" Taggert had his inaugural AYSO soccer game yesterday and loved every minute of it. He played very well for his first game. They only play 3 vs. 3 so there is plenty of opportunity to kick, chase, kick, chase, kick, chase, try and score a goal. He had just as much fun eating his halftime apple treats as he did playing the game. He shouted from the sidelines when not in telling all of the kids where to go on the field. When he was in he was the "Energizer Bunny" and even when he wasn't around the ball he was running 1000 miles an hour. Great time for dad watching his youngest finally get a chance to lace it up with the Pro's.

Syracuse Black 3-1 Tough loss to Layton Red 36-12

We had the toughest game of the season this year with Layton Red. We ended up losing 36-12 and made a few mistakes and lost Tyler Brown at the first of the game. Jaden scored both touchdowns on two very good runs. The first was on a punt return where he let the ball roll after the punt until it almost came to a stop and then he picked it up and ran 70 yards for the first score. Pretty wild play but Jaden said afterwords. "Everyone just stopped and I knew if I could pick it up before they blew the whistle I could beat everyone around the end." That's exactly what he did. The second score was about a 60 yard run on a pitch left from the power formation. He also had an interception and had some very good tough runs. This was a non region game and does not count towards our standings for the playoffs but it was still a tough loss to a good Layton Red Team. Up next Bear River Red.......Stay tuned.

Family picks from 2006

I finally got Jen to burn these pics onto a disc that we took of our family back in the fall of 2006. Although they are almost 2 years old these are some of my favorites. Enjoy.

Taggert's swmming lessons

OK.......OK.......OK.........Taggert we will take you swimming.

Taggert took his last dive in the pool with floaties. Taggert is now the newest swimmer in the Ralphs' home. After 2 weeks of lessons at Clearfield Aquatic Center he can now officially swim.

He has a mean backstroke and his breaststroke is coming along. He will compete in his first triathlon next week..................Well maybe not quite next week but he moving in the right direction.........Great job Tag.

3-0 Football Syracuse Black

Jaden played another tough game on Saturday. They played Logan red and it got off to a rocky start as they fell behind 6-0. Jaden was able to break a couple of tough runs to score two touchdowns and the boys pulled out a tough win against a scrappy Logan team. We ended up winning the game 13-6. This was an important win as it guarantees home field advantage for the first round in the playoffs. We play another 3-0 team this next Saturday as they play Layton Red. Should be a great matchup and a tough game.

School Started today

School finally started today for Morgan and Jaden. Morgan is a senior at CHS and Jaden is in the 8th grade at Syr. Jr. High. They were both pretty excited and feel comfortable with their classes and hope to do well this year.

Emmory and Taggert are on year round school at Bluffridge Ele. and have been going for 3 weeks now. Emmory is in the 5th grade and Taggert just started his first year of school in Kindergarten. They were also both excited to get back as mom and dad were as well.

Should be a fun filled year of school and sporting activities for our family.

Football and Soccer weekend with the Ralphs' 2-0 for football 0-1 for soccer

Jaden had his second game of the season and although the score was closer than the game Syracuse Black still came away with a win. We Played Moutain Crest Blue at Mtn. Crest High School. The final score was 26-20. Jaden again had a good game with 3 more touchdowns this week and Tyler Brown got his first TD since his accident took him out for the full season last year. It was neat to see the boys get another win. We also had 4 tunovers for the game which let Mtn. Crest utilize their opportunities to almost steal a win.

Jaden also had a soccer game at Weber County FG and Lost 4-2 in a hard fought game. Because his team (Steam) does not have a goalie they take turns playing and Jaden played the entire second half in the goal. They scored once on him as a player headed a cross past him and into the net. He played well but after a full day of football he was a little tired out on the field. The temperature for the soccer game was in the mid 90's and it was very hot.

Syracuse Black plays a tough game this coming Saturday as they take on a good Logan Red team who is also 2-0. We play in Syracuse this week for our first home game and we hope that the homefield advantage will give us an edge. Stay tuned for an update of the game on Sat.

Football at the Ralphs' home Syracuse Black 1-0

Well it's that time of year again that we put on the pads and get out there and hit something. Jaden has his first football game this Saturday against Brigham City Purple in BC. The family is excited to watch the team play this year. The team did well last year and Jaden played better than we ever thought he would as it was his first year. We have a good bunch of kids to coach this year and most of them seem willing to learn and are not afraid to get out and get after it.
We will see what this Saturday holds for our first game and see if the boys are ready. More later.............
Well the first football game of the season ended in a win against a scrappy Brigham City Purple team. It was played at Watkins park in B.C. and the team played well for their first game. No turnovers and we executed most of the offensive plays without much problem. It was exciting to see the boys come together for their first game of the season.
Jaden played exceptionally well as he had 3 touchdowns in the 20-6 win. BC's offense could never get going as our defense shut down most of everything that they did. Most of the boys were able to overcome their pregame jitters to go out and get things done. It was an important win for this team as we are looking to build upon the success of last year.
I will continue to update each weeks game on this blog and hopefully we will have a successful year as a team. It has been exciting to be a part of the team as a coach this year and I hope I can continue to help these boys progress in their desire to improve in their football skills and teamwork.

Duane and Jen's hike up Waterfall Canyon

Jen took me up Waterfall Canyon for our 18th anniversary. It was a great time. It has been about 15 years since we have been up there. It was pretty hot on June 28th so we took a couple of small towels that we kept wet around our neck. There were several people coming down the trail as we went up. By the time we got to the top we were very hot and ready to be cooled off by the falling water off of the cliffs. We stayed up at the top for about 1 hour and then we decided it was time to head down the trail. We had been hiking down about 15 minutes when a couple coming up the trail told us to be careful and not step on the rattlesnake in the trail. That did not sit well with Jen and I had them show us exactly where it was on the trail. It wasn't very big but they said that small rattlesnakes venom is more potent that an adult. We tried to find another way around and Jen promptly climbed ten feet up the mountain through the spider infested weeds instead of jumping over the snake. I had to show my masculinity so I jumped over it and we were on our way down the trail. It was nice to get to the bridge because we knew we were almost to the bottom. It was a great time and hopefully it is not 10 years until we get back there again.

We will have to take our kids up there this year before it snows this winter.
The water was cold but after we had hiked for an hour it felt very good to stand in the waterfall. By the time we had reached the car we were almost completely dry. Later that night we ended up eating at the new Iggy's at the new downtown center in Ogden. They have really cleaned up that part of town since they demolished the old Ogden City Mall.
We had a great time for our 18th anniversary and we hope to have at least 18 more.

Jaden and Dads trip to see a 49ers game in SanFrancisco

It was a good father and son bonding trip with Jaden. I had some sky miles that I had to use or lose so I thought I'd take Jaden to his first NFL game. We went to SF because it was close. We stayed at a dive but it was a bed to sleep in and was relatively close to the stadium.
Jaden was a little concerned about the snow on the plane. We had to sit on the tarmac and wait to be de-iced. In the end we were on our way and it was an fairly uneventful plane ride to SF.

We made it downtown to Hyde Street and rode the trolley down to Fisherman's Wharf and had a good time. Jaden thought it was pretty cool to go up and down the roads on the trolley and end up down by the water.
Jaden was hungry so while I stood in line to get on the trolley he went in to Burger King and bought us some fries and a drink.
Although the sun was out it was a little chilly and we ended up buying Jaden a jacket to keep his fat free body warm. He felt much better after that. We wanted to get a little
closer to the Golden Gate Bridge but we only had an afternoon so see the sights in SF so this was as close as we got. Even from this far away you could tell it was very BIG.
They had quite a few live bands playing down in Fisherman's Wharf. We ended up eating lunch at Johnny Rockets and watched a Pantomime and a Magician performing on the street. We also got to see Alcatraz and although it was also pretty far away it was cool to see. They do a triathlon every year down there called escape from Alcatraz. It

would be neat to do it one year. I'm not sure how far it is out to Alcatraz but I'm sure it is much farther than it looks because I remember reading that no-one had ever escaped from Alcatraz and lived to tell about it. It seems to be a very popular tourist attraction as there was a line for the ferry that was really long to get to the island to see it.

Jaden had some fun with these 3 hooligans sitting on the bench. He thought it would be pretty funny and it was as you can see.

Right next to our hotel was Utah avenue and Jaden wanted a picture next to this building. We decided to take a walk down the street the night before the game to take in as much as we could of SF plus we were also very hungry.

We got up real early the next morning and went to the stadium to take it all in. They had a huge tailgating party and there was more food being cooked outside the stadium than inside. There were cars, trucks and motorhomes lined up for half a mile that had tv's food and football games going on. Jaden thought he was pretty cool getting autographs of the 49ers dancers and even got his picture taken with one of them. He didn't know what to say to her so he said "Thanks" As you can see by the picture we were one of the very first people that were let into the stadium so we walked all around and checked out all of the surroundings, found our seats and took tons of pictures. Jaden was grinning from ear to ear and to be honest so was I. What a great experience.
We walked around the whole stadium on the inside and out and were running on a little adrenalin when we got back to our seats for the kickoff.
The game was pretty cool and we watched the whole thing. The 9ers lost to the vikings. Alex Smith did not get to play due to an injury so it wasn't as cool as we hoped it would be.
The traffic was an absolute nightmare getting back to the hotel and we had to cruise to make it to the airport on time to catch our flight home.
Some great memories were made and I hope to do more things like this with all of our kids in the future.

Family Pictures

This is my rocket. My bike times have improved quite a bit over last year. I wish my body were as fast as this bike.

Me and my sweetheart. What would I do with out her.

Wow, Morgan will be a senior this year. She wants mom and dad to flip the bill for a car for her senior year. Ouch.

Jaden has cut his hair since this photo and still looks great. He doesn't think so but mom and dad do.

Emmory is daddy's little girl but she is not so little anymore.
